Learn to Meditate with IMCW This Fall in MD & VA

By Editor | Sep 6 2011
Tara Brach will be offering a 2-week Introduction to Meditation series, “The Basics of Meditation: Teachings & Practices,” this September 14 & 21 during the Wednesday night class in Bethesda, MD. The series will be available in video and audio versions on the IMCW website. These classes are designed to be useful to both the beginner and the experienced meditator. Registration is not required; the class is offered on a dana (donation) basis.

For Virginia sangha members, Jon Waterman will be offering two Introduction to Meditation series this fall, “Introduction to Mindfulness Meditation.” The series will be offered on Tuesdays for 6-weeks each, September 20-October 25, and November 15-December 20, in McLean, VA. Registration is required.

Mary VanDevanter will also be holding an introductory class in Arlington.  Her class will be held on Sunday evening, September 25. This class will explore practical aspects of how to train the mind. Registration is required.

All our introductory classes explore, in varying depths, the purpose of meditation and the practice of Vipassana (Insight or mindfulness) meditation. Basic elements of Vipassana include quieting the mind with a concentrative focus on the breath (or other "anchor") and awakening a mindful and compassionate awareness of all dimensions of our experience.

For those unable to attend these more intensive introductory classes, our monthly 45-minute Introduction to Meditation class will continue to be offered by IMCW teachers before the Wednesday Bethesda class on the 1st Wednesday of each month. Our full Intro to Meditation calendar is available here.
