A Warm Welcome to Newcomers

A Warm Welcome to Newcomers

By Tara Brach | Sep 23 2011
We would like to offer a warm welcome to all the newcomers to our community. We were delighted to see so many people at our Introduction to Meditation class on Wednesday night in Bethesda and to see so many newcomers exploring our website!

Each time you come back to the present moment with interest and kindness, you’re planting a seed of mindfulness, creating a new habit, a new way of being in the world.

I hope that my talk, "Being Here," was helpful to you. We explored how to approach your meditation practice with a light heart, using care, interest and kindness. If you are grim and tense, that will weight down your experience. And try to establish a daily practice, even if it’s just a few minutes a day. Think of it as a gift to yourself.

For those of you who weren’t able to listen to the guided meditation and talk from last week, you can find it on our Talks webpage. The class from this week will be posted this weekend in audio and video on the IMCW website and on Tara's website, and the audio will be available on Tara's weekly podcast.

Some of you may have already seen our "New to Meditation" webpage. It offers suggestions for getting started with your practice. IMCW offers a variety of classes and retreats in the D.C. area, and a wide variety of resources on our website. We hope that you will join us in person when you can, or be a part of our virtual community if you aren’t able to attend in person.

Although we weren’t able to speak with all of you at class, we hope that you’ll return and take the opportunity to introduce yourselves after class. If you have any questions at any time, please don’t hesitate to contact us at IMCW or at info@tarabrach.com.

Many Blessings,

Tara
