The Satipatthana Sutta, or the Four Foundations of Mindfulness, is one of the Buddha’s most fundamental teachings. The Sutta outlines specific instructions on how to use your awareness of everyday experiences to gain ultimate freedom. Among other things, variations of the “Four Foundations” are used as interventions in psychotherapy, form the basis of the NIH-studied Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) class, and are used across the country in K-12 schools as a way to improve executive functioning and impulse control in children.

How viewing our physical bodies through the lens of constant change and impermanence can lead to freedom.

January 15: Mindfulness of Feelings

January 22: Mindfulness of Mental States

Learning to notice the mental states of greed, aversion and delusion can lead to greater wisdom and compassion.

January 29: Mindfulness of the Dhammas
