Loving-kindness Meditation for Challenging Times
Loving-kindness is a quality of a boundless heart that arises naturally when painful states of mind and heart are abandoned. In this retreat, through periods of loving-kindness meditation, mindful sharing, and ceremony, we awaken together and tenderly explore our capacity to create, endure, overcome, and transform suffering. The practice of mindfulness—bringing a conscious, non-judging awareness to our own present experience—is at the heart of the Buddha’s teachings of liberation. In this weekend retreat we will cultivate mindfulness and loving-kindness as a path to joy, inner peace and connection to our natural wisdom and compassion.
Co-sponsored by American University UU Chaplain Charlotte Jones-Carroll.
IMCW Retreats and Workshops
IMCW retreats and workshops offer instruction in Buddhist meditation and talks on the awakening of our natural insight, love and wisdom. While the meditation practices derive from the Buddhist tradition, they are universal in orientation and address spiritual themes of concern to all contemplative traditions.
A workshop is not primarily silent (talking may be allowed during breaks and lunch) and may be focused on a special topic, such as applying meditation to relationships, emotional healing or physical well-being. Workshops may include a variety of formats, including different reflections and exercises and the sharing of experiences.
