In 1992, Tara Brach began teaching meditation classes in the Fireplace Room of River Road Unitarian Church, with about 40 people attending weekly. In 1997, IMCW incorporated as a non-profit, with a vision of filling the world with the growing expression of love, compassion, wisdom and peace--of awakening hearts and minds.
By 2017, over 250 people attend Tara's class each week. Others attend classes and daylongs offered by over 50 IMCW teachers in the D.C. Metro area. Meditation and mindfulness is now practiced around the country, in urban living rooms, in suburban parks and in remote farms, in part due to the hard work of Tara and IMCW.
To commemorate this milestone in our organization’s history, we are hosting a Celebration Event the evening of October 28, 2017 at the historic All Souls Church on 16th Street in Washington, D.C. We hope you will join us for an evening of food, fun and reflection on the past 20 years as we celebrate our Sangha.
We will also hear from our teachers, sangha leaders, supporters and friends to commemorate this milestone achievement. As part of the program, we will showcase pre-recorded video from Dharma leaders across the country, including Joseph Goldstein, Ruth King, Jack Kornfield and more that provide celebratory congratulations on the anniversary.
If you cannot join us but would like to make a donation in honor of Tara Brach and IMCW’s 20 years of awakening hearts and minds, you may do so here:
Doors will open to pre-registered guests at 6:30 p.m. The program will begin at 7:15 p.m.
This venue is entirely ADA accessible, with the handicap ramp located at the corner of 16th St. and Harvard St.
