IMCW's Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an eight-week program in the Washington, DC area that assists people who want to learn to use their own internal resources to respond more skillfully to stress, medical and psychological conditions, and promote healthy living.

The classes are modeled after the ones offered at the Stress Reduction Clinic developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. This 30-year-old program is highly respected in the medical community, and has been featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show, NBC’s Dateline, ABC’s Evening News, and hundreds of newspapers and magazine articles. In February 2014 it was featured on the cover of Time Magazine.

The course schedule consists of eight 2.5-hour weekly classes and one 6-hour day-long workshop. This highly participatory, practical course includes:

  • Guided instruction in mindfulness meditation practices
  • Gentle stretching and mindful yoga
  • Group dialogue and discussions aimed at enhancing awareness in everyday life
  • Daily home practice, including guided meditations
  • Six meditation practice CDs (also available in mp3 format) and a home practice manual

This program showed me a new way to live -- a much more full experience in my everyday experiences. I learned to meditate in new ways, opening myself to healing compassion I did not know (or want to admit) I truly needed. Stan was such a phenomenal teacher - he gave wonderful classes and was available for make-up classes as needed. He went above and beyond anything I could have imagined. This course truly changed my life.

Fees:  For the 8-week class series plus the daylong, $550

Scholarships: Scholarships are available. To apply, please email the retreat manager before registering. You can also direct a donation to the scholarship fund on the registration form. Please apply early as funds are limited.

IMCW Refund Policy: If you cancel more than three weeks before the start of the class series, your payment will be refunded minus a $50 administrative fee. IMCW cannot offer refunds for cancellations made fewer than 3 weeks before the beginning of the class series. There is no refund for classes you do not attend. Issuing a refund check may take 2-4 weeks.
