Cultivating the Heart Weekend

Wellspring Conference Center Stan Eisenstein Jennifer Stanley

Stan Eisenstein and Jennifer Stanley

5/24/2019 4:00 PM - 5/26/2019 5:00 PM  at  Wellspring Conference Center, (11411 Neelsville Church Road, Germantown, MD, 20876) (Map It)

Friday, May 24-Sunday, May 26

The Buddha counseled some very scared monks to counteract their fear by cultivating profound and boundless kindness for all. “Just as a mother would protect her only child with her life, even so let one cultivate a boundless love toward all beings.” The Buddha described the states of loving-kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy, and equanimity as the dwelling places of Awakened beings. Cultivating opening our hearts toward ourselves and all others helps us to become freer of the imprisoning ego-self.

In this retreat, we will practice opening our hearts to ourselves, to our loved ones, to those we barely notice, to those who push our buttons, and ultimately to all beings. Through dharma talks, guided meditations, silent meditations, and group meetings with the teachers, a number of principles regarding opening the heart will be discussed and practiced.

Comments from the September retreat:

Teachings were well-articulated, challenging and sophisticated. Teachers were open, caring.

Really appreciated Stan and the care and thoughtfulness he brought to the talks and to the group session. I am very grateful for his presence here.
