at Unitarian Universalist Church of Reston, (1625 Wiehle Avenue, Reston, VA)
Meditations at this class normally consist of a short 5-minute introduction to meditation and mindfulness, a 30-minute meditation sit and then 10-minute teaching about the practice, sharing, and questions and answers.
The sits vary between silent, guided with words and imagery, mindfulness practice, concentration techniques, and cultivation of heart practices (love and kindness, compassion, equanimity, generosity, etc). Techniques are mainly oriented around insight meditation or vipassana which uses the breath as an anchor.
All are encouraged to bring in and use the meditation practice that works best for them. The common link is finding calm and peace through stillness, silence, and connection with the present moment through nonjudgmental awareness. In this mindful practice we can learn to take action and relate to the world around us in more skillful ways.
No registration is necessary. These classes are offered freely. There is an opportunity to offer dana (a donation/generosity) at class to support the teacher and venue.
Newcomers to meditation and long time practitioners are welcome to attend IMCW classes. Chairs are always provided or you may bring your sitting gear.
