Happy in the Heart: Practices for Generating Joy

One of the greatest gifts of meditation practice is that it can help us to train our minds and hearts to generate even more joy and happiness in our lives, no matter what circumstances we may be experiencing in any moment.
The Buddhist teachings in particular not only show us that creating even more joy in our lives is possible, but give us ample instructions about how to do it.
During our time together, we’ll be gently exploring a variety of these teachings and practices, and tapping into the abundance of joy that has been residing all along in the heart, just waiting to be awakened.
We’ll be gathering for our retreat on Saturday from 9:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. in the peaceful, spacious, modern blue sanctuary of the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Shenandoah Valley, 6380 Valley Pike, Stephens City, VA. The quiet church grounds include open spaces and beautiful walking trails in the woods.
The format will include both guided and silent meditation, a dharma talk, and walking meditation both inside the sanctuary, and outside on the beautiful grounds. The silence will end at 4 p.m., and we’ll finish with a half-hour dedicated to questions.

IMCW Retreats and Workshops
IMCW retreats and workshops offer instruction in Buddhist meditation and talks on the awakening of our natural insight, love and wisdom. While the meditation practices derive from the Buddhist tradition, they are universal in orientation and address spiritual themes of concern to all contemplative traditions.
A workshop is not primarily silent (talking may be allowed during breaks and lunch) and may be focused on a special topic, such as applying meditation to relationships, emotional healing or physical well-being. Workshops may include a variety of formats, including different reflections and exercises and the sharing of experiences.

Our daylongs open for registration 12 weeks in advance. Please complete a separate registration for each yogi. We want to know about each one of you!
Fees: Base $75, Mid $85, Sponsor $95
The base offering covers direct expenses for this event, including support for the teacher. Your payment at the two higher levels includes a tax-deductible donation to the Insight Meditation Community of Washington (IMCW).
Scholarships: Scholarships are available. To apply, please click the "Contact Us" button below before registering. You can also direct a donation to the scholarship fund on the registration form. Please apply early as funds are limited.
IMCW Refund Policy: $35 of the registration fee is non-refundable. If you contact the retreat manager by clicking the "Contact Us" button below three weeks before the event, the balance of your registration will be refunded. Issuing a refund check may take 2-4 weeks. If you cancel less than three weeks before your retreat begins, your full payment is forfeited.
