Introduction to Mindfulness Meditation and Stress Reduction
Mondays, March 7-April 11
This series will give you an opportunity to become familiar with basic techniques, language and applicable skills of Mindfulness Meditation. Instructions will be given various postures including; sitting, kneeling, standing and gentle movement. These are designed to help the student establish and sustain an individualized daily meditation practice and sitting in a chair is encouraged for anyone finding the floor uncomfortable. Each class also includes a session of restorative deep relaxation in the reclining posture.
Jon blends a secular approach to teaching meditation with traditional language from the dharma and his short talks explore how meditation not only lowers stress levels but also restores a sense of balance in our busy lives. From the outset he invites each of us to answer the question, “Over the next six weeks, how can you learn to genuinely enjoy a meditation practice, both on and off the cushion?”
Chairs, sitting cushions, blankets, eye masks and other necessary props will be provided. We suggest that whenever possible you wear or bring comfortable, loose fitting clothing.
Please note that in order to respect group dynamics, registration closes after the 2nd class unless you have an established mindfulness meditation practice.
