Daylong: Full Surrender
- 4:30 PM at Unitarian Universalist Church of the Shenandoah, (6380 Valley Pike, Stephens City, VA, 22655) (Map It)
Full Surrender: Learning to Ride the Waves
All phenomena is constantly changing, arising and passing and arising and passing again into something new – including ourselves. “Life” is really a continuous flow; a verb instead of a frozen noun. Yet so often we suffer because of our very human tendency to grasp and cling to what is essentially in motion – especially our own identity as a solid and unchangeable “self.”
Freedom and ease comes from being able to recognize, allow, and align ourselves with this minute-by-minute, second-by-second flow, and to identify more with the vast, loving ocean of awareness that is simply riding the waves of experience.
During our time together, we’ll be exploring a variety of guided and silent meditations to put us more in touch with the changing flow of phenomena, a talk on annica (impermanence), silent walking meditation, lunch shared in silence, and quiet time in nature.
We’ll be gathering for our retreat on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m in the peaceful, spacious, modern blue sanctuary of the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Shenandoah Valley, 6380 Valley Pike, Stephens City, VA. The quiet church grounds include open spaces and beautiful walking trails in the woods.
The format will include both guided and silent meditation, a dharma talk, and waTlking meditation both inside the sanctuary, and outside on the beautiful grounds. The silence will end at 4 p.m., and we’ll finish with a half-hour dedicated to questions.
Once you’ve registered, you’ll receive more information and suggestions from Shell.
IMCW Retreats and Workshops
IMCW retreats and workshops offer instruction in Buddhist meditation and talks on the awakening of our natural insight, love and wisdom. While the meditation practices derive from the Buddhist tradition, they are universal in orientation and address spiritual themes of concern to all contemplative traditions.
A workshop is not primarily silent (talking may be allowed during breaks and lunch) and may be focused on a special topic, such as applying meditation to relationships, emotional healing or physical well-being. Workshops may include a variety of formats, including different reflections and exercises and the sharing of experiences.
