Classes: 8 Thursdays, July 6-August 24, 7– 9:30 p.m.

Daylong: Saturday, August 12, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Introduction to MBSR available on Thursday, June 22, 7–8:30 p.m.

IMCW's Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an eight-week program in the Washington, DC area that assists people who want to learn to use their own internal resources to respond more skillfully to stress, medical and psychological conditions, and promote healthy living.

The classes are modeled after the ones offered at the Stress Reduction Clinic developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. This 30-year-old program is highly respected in the medical community, and has been featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show, NBC’s Dateline, ABC’s Evening News, and hundreds of newspapers and magazine articles. In February 2014 it was featured on the cover of Time Magazine.

Intentional, present–moment awareness, developed through mindfulness meditation practices, helps us experience whatever is happening in our life as it unfolds with curiosity, non-judging attention, and compassion for ourselves and others. Engaging with our life in this manner helps us to become more skillful and creative in our responses, while gaining insight into how to free ourselves from habitual patterns of reacting.

The course schedule consists of eight 2.5-hour weekly classes and one 6-1/2-hour daylong workshop. This highly participatory, practical course includes:

  • Exploration into the nature of mindfulness
  • Guided instruction in mindfulness meditation practices
  • Gentle stretching and mindful yoga
  • Group dialogue and discussions aimed at enhancing awareness in everyday life
  • Daily home assignments
  • A workbook, relevant handouts, and 6 CDs containing meditation practices

Registration Information

IMCW series open 3 months in advance for registration.

Fees:  For the 8-week class series plus the daylong, $550

Scholarships: Scholarships are available. To apply, please email the retreat manager before registering. You can also direct a donation to the scholarship fund on the registration form. Please apply early as funds are limited.

IMCW Refund Policy: If you cancel more than three weeks before the start of the class series, your payment will be refunded minus a $50 administrative fee. IMCW cannot offer refunds for cancellations made fewer than 3 weeks before the beginning of the class series. There is no refund for classes you do not attend. Issuing a refund check may take 2-4 weeks.

Accessibility: For disability-related accommodations, please email the retreat manager with your request at least three weeks before the event.

Late Registration: Online registration will close at 12 a.m. the day before the retreat. To request late registration, please email the retreat manager to check if there are still openings.
