Class Series: Introduction to Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

This 8-week course will give you an opportunity to become familiar with basic techniques, language and applicable skills of Mindfulness Meditation. While these classes are shorter than those in a traditional MBSR course, instructions will be given in all of the various postures including; sitting, kneeling, standing, walking and gentle movement. Sitting in a chair is encouraged for anyone finding the floor uncomfortable.
Each class also includes a session of restorative, deep relaxation in the reclining posture which many find an important pre-requisite prior to establishing and sustaining an individualized daily meditation practice.
Jon blends a secular approach to teaching meditation with traditional language from the dharma and his short talks explore how meditation not only lowers stress levels but also restores a sense of balance in our busy lives. From the outset he invites each of us to answer the question, “Over the next eight weeks, how can we learn to genuinely enjoy a meditation practice, both on and off the cushion?”
Chairs, sitting cushions, blankets, eye masks and other necessary props will be provided. We suggest that whenever possible you wear or bring comfortable, loose fitting clothing. Please note that in order to respect group dynamics, registration closes after the 2nd class unless you have an established mindfulness meditation practice.
