5/31/2019 6:00 PM - 6/2/2019 12:00 PM  at  Claymont Society, Great Barn, (667 Huyett Road, Charles Town, WV, 25414) (Map It)

A Weekend of Loving-kindness

Friday, May 31-Sunday, June 2

This silent retreat will focus on cultivating the quality of loving kindness (mettain Pali), infusing our hearts, minds and bodies with a strong caring wisdom. We will tenderly explore our capacity to create, endure, overcome, and transform suffering through practices of loving-kindness and awareness. Loving-kindness practices open the heart, allow a kind embrace of ourselves, and connect us intimately with all of life. The fusion of mindfulness and loving-kindness helps us to respond more compassionately to the challenges that we encounter in ourselves and in the world.

On this retreat loving-kindness practices will be supported by periods of guided instruction, talks, mindful movement, and walking meditation.

The retreat center is committed to using green technology, and most of its excellent organic cuisine is made from fresh, local produce. IMCW residential retreat meals are lacto-ovo vegetarian. Vegan, dairy-free and gluten-free options are available upon request. Please note on your registration if you have any special dietary allergies. Meal clean-up, making and stripping beds, and bell-ringing will be required yogi duties.

During our retreat, we’ll be meditating in the unique, expansive Octagon building attached to the Great Barn, once frequently used by Zen Master Thich Nhat Hahn.

Rooms are multiple-occupancy, with 2-4 twin beds and shared bathrooms. The barn’s comfortable, unique rooms include towels, sheets, pillows, and blankets for guests.

This venue is not accessible for those with mobility impairments.

Arrive Friday and check-in from 2-6 p.m.; retreat begins at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 31 and ends at noon on Sunday, June 2.

In order to nurture a sense of stillness and deep listening, silence will be maintained throughout the retreat, as we experience a variety of dharma talks, silent and guided meditations, and walking meditation on the grounds.

Please find more information about retreats in our Resource section/Residential Retreat Information.
