Friday, August 23-Sunday, August 25

We all experience fear; it’s a very natural part of being alive. Yet, when our fears balloon and begin to overwhelm us, we can feel increasingly isolated, defensive, or out of control as we try even harder to tie fear down, hide from it, or defend against the things that scare us the most.

Paradoxically, instead of fleeing or fighting, the way out of this scary place and into a more calm state of grace and ease is to courageously begin to name, investigate, get-to-know, and even be-friend our fears so that they no longer haunt us, or take us hostage.

During our time together, we’ll be exploring ways that we can begin to take a closer look at our fears, at some of the reasons they hijack us, and at how we can slowly begin to face and dissolve them with grace, curiosity, courage, and a tremendous amount of kindness and compassion.

In order to nurture a sense of stillness and deep listening, silence will be maintained throughout the retreat, as we experience a variety of dharma talks, silent and guided meditations, and walking meditation on the grounds.

The retreat center is committed to using green technology, and most of its excellent organic cuisine is made from fresh, local produce. Vegan, dairy-free and gluten-free options are available upon request.

During our retreat, we’ll be using a sunny, peaceful, air-conditioned meditation hall inside the center, along with the open, expansive Octagon building, once frequently used by Zen Master Thich Nhat Hahn. This special sanctuary makes listening to sounds of the surrounding natural beauty vivid, and deeply calming.

The barn’s comfortable, unique rooms include air conditioning, towels, sheets, pillows, and blankets for guests.

This venue is not accessible for those with mobility impairments.
