This special introductory class is being offered for anyone interested in learning more about the upcoming 8-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction workshops. Stan's next 8-week MBSR course series begins on July 11.
In this introductory class you will learn about some of the principles of mindfulness, explore how mindfulness might assist in stress reduction, and practice both formal and informal mindfulness meditation.
Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction is an intimate and intensive 8-week course is designed to help you establish your own unique mindfulness practice, teach you techniques that can help reduce physical and emotional symptoms made worse by stress, and increase your peace and quality of life.
The classes are modeled after the ones offered at the Stress Reduction Clinic developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. This 30-year-old program is highly respected in the medical community, and has been featured on PBS in Bill Moyers’ documentary, "Healing and the Mind" (seen by more than 40 million people,) the Oprah Winfrey Show, NBC’s Dateline, ABC’s Evening News, and hundreds of newspapers and magazine articles. *In February 2014 it was featured on the cover of Time Magazine.
The course schedule consists of eight weekly classes and one day-long workshop. This highly participatory, practical course includes:
- Guided instruction in mindfulness meditation practices
- Gentle stretching and mindful yoga
- Group dialogue and discussions aimed at enhancing awareness in everyday life
- Daily home practice, including guided meditations
- Six home practice CDs (also available in mp3 format) and a home practice manual
Participants attending the class should bring comfortable clothing, layers for adjusting to the temperature, and pillows for comfort. Chairs will be provided.

Parking and Transportation: 2-hour street parking is available on Wisconsin Avenue and side streets. The venue is two blocks from the Tenleytown metro station.
