No registration is necessary. There will be an opportunity at class to offer dana (donation) to support the teacher and venue.

ASL (American Sign Language) Interpreting up to once per month can be requested for this class at least 3 weeks in advance. Please email IMCW, if you are interested.

Newcomers to meditation and long time practitioners are welcome to attend IMCW classes. Chairs are always provided or you may bring your sitting gear.

Community: A Part of the Whole

Many have heard the story of the Buddha's answer to the question that Ananda, his  main student, asked:  "Good, noble friends are not part of this journey, they are the WHOLE of it." We are conditioned to feel separate. What's reinforced in our culture is a basic sense of me in here and the world out there. This translates into a felt need to grasp for approval and defend this identity, and this dynamic can lead us into despair, harshness, loneliness -- suffering. Yet what we discover as we practice is we are always in relationship.   All of experience is relating to life inside us and around us. Tonight we will explore the meaning of 'community; as an integral part of this Path, and how it both supports our awakening and is the milieu where we can practice compassion and kindness.

Mindfulness and Intimacy

Go beyond mere mindfulness—and deepen your connection to your self, the people in your life, and the world around you.

Mindfulness is an ancient and powerful practice of awareness and nonjudgmental discernment that can help us ground ourselves in the present moment, with the world and our lives just as they are. But there’s a risk: by focusing our attention on something (or someone), we might always see it as something other, as separate from ourselves. To close this distance, mindfulness has traditionally been paired with a focus on intimacy, community, and interdependence. In this book, Ben Connelly shows us how to bring these two practices together—bringing warm hearts to our clear seeing.
