Cultivating Mindful Presence in Daily Life: Silent Weekend Retreat

Friday, September 4-Sunday, September 6

This retreat has been moved online.

One of the challenges we face as meditators is how we bring the fruits of our meditation and mindfulness practice into our daily lives. How do we cultivate mindfulness at home and in our significant relationships? How do we cultivate equanimity and wisdom in the workplace? How do we engage in wise action in the world?

In this retreat, we will focus on cultivating a deeper experience of mindfulness. Then we will practice contemplation of engaging that mindfulness more fully in our lived experience. All of the talks, guided meditations, and exercises will be directed toward exploring practices and principles related to mindful living.

Note: Though much of the retreat will be held in Noble Silence, this retreat is designed for an online environment. There will be a mix of guided and unguided meditation, group meetings with teachers, guided and unguided movement, dharma talks, and dyad inquiry sessions throughout the retreat. Training in using the Zoom video format will be made available for those who need it the week before the retreat begins.

Diversity Terms

Because this is an online retreat, participants are encouraged to find space of relative quiet, limiting the amount of interaction with others in the environment as much as possible. Because the retreat is not a fully silent retreat, some interaction with others in your home can be acceptable as needed. Meals will be held on your own in Noble Silence, as much as possible. Participants may join by internet or via phone.

Participants will be given links to join the retreat the week before the retreat begins.

The registration fee only supports IMCW and the Wellspring Retreat Center. None of these funds are offered to the teachers and managers of the retreat. At the end of the retreat, participants will be given the opportunity to offer dana (donation, generosity) to the teachers and managers for the time and energy put into making the retreat happen. Dana is not required, and the amount is left to each participant to determine. More information about the dana process will be sent near the time of the retreat.

Scholarships

Scholarships are available. To apply, please click the "Contact Us" button below before registering. You can also direct a donation to the scholarship fund on the registration form. Please apply early as funds are limited.

IMCW Refund Policy

$15 of the registration fee is non-refundable. If you contact the retreat manager by clicking the "Contact Us" button below three weeks before the event, the balance of your registration will be refunded. Issuing a refund may take 2-4 weeks. If you cancel less than three weeks before your retreat begins, your full payment is forfeited. Please note that donations cannot be refunded (IRS regulations).

IMCW retreats offer instruction in Buddhist meditation and talks on the awakening of our natural insight, love and wisdom. While the meditation practices derive from the Buddhist tradition, they are universal in orientation and address spiritual themes of concern to all contemplative traditions.

Retreats are largely held in Noble Silence, where practitioners not only remain silent, but also refrain from electronic communication. Noble Silence fosters a deeper stillness and intimacy with one’s own mind and interior life. Participants may interact with teachers and managers to help them process whatever experiences arise during the retreat.
