Cultivating Mindful Presence in Daily Life: Silent Weekend Retreat

One of the challenges we face as meditators is how we bring the fruits of our meditation and mindfulness practice into our daily lives. How do we cultivate mindfulness at home and in our significant relationships? How do we cultivate equanimity and wisdom in the workplace? How do we engage in wise action in the world?

In this retreat, we will focus on cultivating a deeper experience of mindfulness. Then we will practice contemplation of engaging that mindfulness more fully in our lived experience. Through dharma talks, guided meditations, and group meetings with the teacher, a number of practices and principles related to mindful living will be discussed and explored.

Wellspring Conference Center is located on the property of Dayspring -- a 200+ acre expanse of woodlands, meadows, ponds and wildlife in Germantown, MD, a suburb of Washington, D.C.

All of the buildings are sited and constructed to conform to the existing landscape and limit the ecological footprint. With a unique angular, split-level design, our three rustic cabins open up to the forest with window expanses connecting inside spaces with the surrounding woods. The main meeting building features floor-to-ceiling windows along its three sides, a stone fireplace and a vaulted ceiling sheathed in light pine, topped by a skylight.

This venue is accessible for those with mobility impairments.

Arrival starts at 4 p.m., dinner at 5:30, formal program begins at 7 p.m. The retreat concludes at 5 p.m. on Sunday, with an optional dinner afterward.

Tasty and healthy home-cooked meals feature fresh baked breads, and at breakfast, Wellspring's signature "Janet's Scones" with creme and seasonal berries or fruits. All meals are vegetarian starting with dinner on Friday and ending with breakfast on Sunday. If you have special dietary needs (e.g. gluten-free, vegan), please include this in your registration notes.

The retreat size is limited to 36 participants to foster an intimate experience.

Most rooms are double-occupancy. A few single rooms are available. A tent camping option is available as well. Please note if you have someone that you would like to room with. If you have special room needs, please contact the retreat managers.
