THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED.

Four Tuesdays, July 21-August 11

Daylong, Saturday, August 15, 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

In the midst of challenging conditions, we are perhaps more available for challenging teachings. One of the most profound and yet misunderstood teachings of the Buddha is that of emptiness. The Buddha invites us to contemplate and realize the truth that all worldly phenomena are empty of permanence, satisfactoriness, and self. An embodied sense of these realizations, even for a moment, can lead to enormous freedom and, when sustained, a durable sense of peace and ease.

This program will focus on seeing worldly existence from a variety of viewpoints, leading to greater freedom. We will offer some framing of this transformative teaching and then a series of meditative exercises that help participants to develop a felt experience of emptiness.

The program will consist of four 2-hour sessions and a daylong retreat, all held through Zoom video conference. The program also includes two 20-minute private sessions with a teacher to discuss issues arising with these contemplations.

Participants are asked to commit 30 minutes daily toward the meditations introduced in the course. Recordings of guided meditations will be provided.

This course is based largely on the book Seeing That Frees by Rob Burbea." The book is NOT required reading. If you wish, you may purchase it here:  https://www.indiebound.org/book/9780992848910.

NOTE:.

This course is designed for individuals who are somewhat familiar with meditation and Dharma principles. Participants should have a regular-ish meditation practice. Some retreat experience is ideal but not required as many who are committed to practice do not have the life circumstances that support going on retreat. Please complete the course application form and then register for the course. The application and registration must both be received and approved before you will be confirmed to take the course. (Anyone not confirmed will get a full refund.)

The Zoom link for this series will be sent out the week before the series begins.

Participants are advised to find a location with relatively few distractions, as much as possible. Participants may wish to have a cushion or bench for meditation, or a chair that allows the back to be reasonably upright; a pillow behind the back may be of assistance.

Again, the application must be received and approved before you will be confirmed to take the course.
