Everyday Bardos: Navigating Change, Uncertainty and Loss

Most of 2020 has felt like one long bardo state -- the liminal space between when the familiar ground of certainty falls away and the "next thing" materializes. And as we continue to navigate COVID-19, civil rights clashes, and an important upcoming election and its aftermath, the next thing might not materialize for a long time! But in addition to being scary and unsettling, these periods of groundlessness can set the stage for profound personal and spiritual growth. In this daylong retreat, we'll engage with some of the classical Buddhist teachings on working with the difficulty of being in transition -- emotionally, mentally and physically.

We'll practice together with a combination of guided and silent sitting meditation, walking meditation, short talks, and structured reflective writing. Participants will spend the majority of the retreat in silence, with opportunities for sharing at the start and close of the day.

Ample breaks are scheduled into the day to ease the affects of prolonged screen time.

IMCW aspires to create a safe, supportive community. We welcome everyone with an interest in meditation, regardless of identity, orientation or background.

IMCW retreats and workshops offer instruction in Buddhist meditation and talks on the awakening of our natural insight, love and wisdom. While the meditation practices derive from the Buddhist tradition, they are universal in orientation and address spiritual themes of concern to all contemplative traditions.

A workshop is not primarily silent (talking may be allowed during breaks and lunch) and may be focused on a special topic, such as applying meditation to relationships, emotional healing or physical well-being. Workshops may include a variety of formats, including different reflections and exercises and the sharing of experiences.
