U Can’t Touch This: Liberation in a Time of Despair – A Daylong for BIPOC

This daylong will provide a refuge for BIPOC to explore ways to understand the practice as an opportunity to be at ease and at peace regardless of the storm of white supremacy in which we live. To revisit the practice as a warriorship that is powerful, connected, and sustainable for us in this time of internal and external turmoil. The time for being connected to our bodies, hearts, and minds has never felt so necessary. We are aware that there is no end in sight, no goal that will be reached that can alleviate the pain, suffering, and delusion that surrounds us. What is available is awareness: one that provides the rest and wisdom to meet what is happening now and all that will come.

In this daylong together, we will:

  • honor our blood and cultural ancestors, known and unknown
  • honor the earth and all the gifts she offers unconditionally
  • honor and move our bodies with all its abilities and limitations and name the ways we have rejected and accepted them
  • practice mindfulness meditation to deepen our awareness of how life lives through us
  • cultivate lovingkindness, compassion, sympathetic joy, and equanimity to strengthen our hearts’ ability to be present to this life in all its manifestations
  • come together as sangha and share stories of struggle and liberation to remind us that, in trusting life’s unfolding and in having faith in uncertainty, we can free ourselves and all beings from the delusion of separation
