Exploring Emptiness: Silent Weekend Online Retreat

Friday, May 28 -Sunday, May 30

In the midst of challenging conditions, we are perhaps more available for challenging teachings. One of the most profound and yet misunderstood teachings of the Buddha is that of emptiness. The Buddha invites us to contemplate and realize the truth that all worldly phenomena are empty of permanence, satisfactoriness, and  a separate self. An embodied sense of these realizations, even for a moment, can lead to enormous freedom and, when sustained, a durable sense of peace and ease.

In this retreat, we will focus on cultivating an experience of emptiness and seeing how this perspective affects our level of stress and suffering. All of the talks, guided meditations, and exercises will be directed toward exploring practices and principles related to relaxing into emptiness.

Note: Though much of the retreat will be held in Noble Silence, this retreat is designed for an online environment. There will be a mix of guided and unguided meditation, group meetings with teachers, guided and unguided movement, and dharma talks throughout the retreat.

Note: Because this is an online retreat, participants are encouraged to find space of relative quiet, limiting the amount of interaction with others in the environment as much as possible. Participants may join by internet or via phone.

Participants will be given the Zoom link in the registration confirmation email and again via email the week before the course begins.

The registration fee only supports administration expenses. None of these funds are offered to the teachers and managers of the retreat. At the end of the retreat, participants will be given the opportunity to offer dana (donation, generosity) to the teachers and managers for the time and energy put into making the retreat happen.

Dana is not required, and the amount is left to each participant to determine. More information about the dana process will be sent near the time of the retreat.
