Second Sunday Dharma Series

Dr. Kristin Neff, a pioneer in the field of self-compassion research, will be in conversation with IMCW teacher and Mindful Self-Compassion teacher Jennifer Stanley.

In honor of Mother’s Day, they'll be talking about how to “reparent” ourselves with self-compassion. Compassion is focused on the alleviation of suffering, and tender self-compassion helps by allowing us to be with ourselves just as we are, with unconditional acceptance. Fierce self-compassion helps by spurring us to stand up for ourselves, fight injustice and motivate change. Metaphorically, tender self-compassion is like a nurturing mother soothing her crying child, while fierce self-compassion is like Momma Bear protecting her cubs.  All people have both energies regardless of gender identity, but like yin and yang they need to be balanced and integrated for our greatest well-being.

Whether you're a motherless child, a childless mother, actively mothering others or learning to mother yourself, we welcome you to this Mother's Day session.

In June, Kristin will be releasing her new book Fierce Self-Compassion: How Women Can Harness Kindness to Speak Up, Claim Their Power and Thrive.

This special series is being offered in the spirit of generosity. You must register for each session in advance, and will be asked to make a donation that aligns with your circumstances. No one will be turned away for financial reasons. You will receive a link to that month’s live webinar, and each participant will receive a link afterwards to the recording (which will be available for 90 days).

We appreciate your generosity. Proceeds from these events will support a variety of IMCW programs, including our scholarship and Larry Yang BIPOC Fund. An option is available so that none may be turned away, but participants are strongly encouraged to make a donation by registering for a Zoom link below.

Note: Because this is an online event, participants are encouraged to find space of relative quiet, limiting the amount of interaction with others in the environment as much as possible. Participants may join by internet or via phone.

Participants will be given the Zoom link in the registration confirmation email and again via email the week before the event begins.
