Second Sunday Dharma Series

Buddhism and the Twelve Steps: Thoughts on Dharma and Recovery

The Buddha said craving is the cause of suffering. Linking this truth to an understanding of addiction and recovery has been the focus of Kevin Griffin's work for two decades. In this conversation, Kevin and IMCW teacher Steve Zappalla invite you to explore with them our relationship to all kinds of craving, from the obvious ones like food and alcohol, to the more subtle cravings for comfort, security, and control. Kevin will also share practices he's found to be transformative from his book Buddhism and the Twelve Steps Daily Reflections.

There will be time at the end of the conversation for participant Q&A. You may pre-submit question for Kevin here https://forms.gle/TFPQNnKYxUBWzavo8, or ask them live via the Chat box.

For this series, we’ve invited guest teachers to join us for an informal virtual gathering, where they’ll share what’s on their mind and alive in their personal practice.

This special series is being offered in the spirit of generosity. You must register for each session in advance, and will be asked to make a donation that aligns with your circumstances. No one will be turned away for financial reasons. You will receive a link to that month’s live webinar, and each participant will receive a link afterwards to the recording (which will be available for 90 days).

We appreciate your generosity. Proceeds from these events will support a variety of IMCW programs, including our scholarship and Larry Yang BIPOC Fund. An option is available so that none may be turned away, but participants are strongly encouraged to make a donation by registering for a Zoom link below.

Note: Because this is an online event, participants are encouraged to find space of relative quiet, limiting the amount of interaction with others in the environment as much as possible. Participants may join by internet or via phone.

Participants will be given the Zoom link in the registration confirmation email and again via email the week before the event begins.
