Letting Go & Beginning Again

Shell Fischer Unitarian Universalist Church of the Shenandoah Valley

Shell Fischer

8/28/2021 9:30 AM - 5:00 PM (ET/U.S. & Canada)  at  Unitarian Universalist Church of the Shenandoah Valley (6380 Valley Pike, Stephens City, VA, 22655) (Map It)

Meditation practice itself has often been defined as a process of learning how we can more calmly observe the constant flow of old and new, birth and death, in each moment, and more fully and compassionately experience both the ache of letting go, and the joy of beginning again.

During this silent daylong meditation retreat, we’ll be exploring how we can offer ourselves the kindness and care we need to let go of the way things were, and to welcome with joy all that is new in our lives – including our view of ourselves as new, too.

We'll be gathering for this retreat in the spacious sanctuary, which is filled with comfy padded church chairs. The quiet grounds include open spaces and beautiful walking trails in the woods.

The format will include both guided and silent meditation, a dharma talk, and walking meditation both inside the sanctuary, and outside on the beautiful grounds. Lunch will be in silence, and participants are asked to bring their own. The silence will end at 4:30 p.m., and we’ll finish with a half-hour dedicated to questions.

Covid-19 Safety Protocol: Because Shell is committed to keeping everyone as safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible while on retreat, at this time she is requiring all who attend this event to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Parking and Public Transportation

This venue has plenty of parking. It is not accessible by public transportation.

IMCW retreats and workshops offer instruction in Buddhist meditation and talks on the awakening of our natural insight, love and wisdom. While the meditation practices derive from the Buddhist tradition, they are universal in orientation and address spiritual themes of concern to all contemplative traditions.

A workshop is not primarily silent (talking may be allowed during breaks and lunch) and may be focused on a special topic, such as applying meditation to relationships, emotional healing or physical well-being. Workshops may include a variety of formats, including different reflections and exercises and the sharing of experiences.
