Joyful Refections: A Daylong for People of Color

Kate Johnson Crossings Center for Healing Traditions

Kate Johnson

3/14/2020 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM  at  Crossings Center for Healing Traditions (8720 Georgia Avenue, Suite 300, Silver Spring, MD, 20910) (Map It)

For people of color in a racist world, the experience of joy is an act of resilience.

It’s also a practice that the Buddha taught -- one that can expand our capacity for gladness through awareness of our profound interconnection with one another.

In this daylong meditation workshop we’ll experience guided meditations, short dharma talks, journaling, chanting, accessible movement practices and small group discussions to help us access the joy that is already always here, and to amplify it for the benefit of all beings -- including ourselves.

Join us, and learn practices of joyful reflection that you can continue in your everyday life, both on and off the cushion.

IMCW retreats and workshops offer instruction in Buddhist meditation and talks on the awakening of our natural insight, love and wisdom. While the meditation practices derive from the Buddhist tradition, they are universal in orientation and address spiritual themes of concern to all contemplative traditions.

A workshop is not primarily silent (talking may be allowed during breaks and lunch) and may be focused on a special topic, such as applying meditation to relationships, emotional healing or physical well-being. Workshops may include a variety of formats, including different reflections and exercises and the sharing of experiences.
