No “I and Mine:” An Experiential Inquiry into the Teachings of No Self

This daylong will move to Zoom online if in-person meetings are restricted.

“Who are YOU?” said the Caterpillar.

This was not an encouraging opening for a conversation. Alice replied, rather shyly, “I-I hardly know, sir, just at present -- at least I know who I WAS when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then.”

~  Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

The Buddha said, “Nothing whatsoever is be clung to as “I or Mine.’"

When you experience moments of "no self," you may experience both a glimpse of freedom as well as perhaps a sense of disorientation.

In this retreat you’ll explore the teachings of "anatta" not just through the classic teachings, but through practices and inquiries that can help you experience what it means to move beyond the mind and into presence.

The practices will include both times of silence and contemplation as well as times of structured inquiry and sharing.

No prior experience required but do come with an open mind and heart.

IMCW retreats and workshops offer instruction in Buddhist meditation and talks on the awakening of our natural insight, love and wisdom. While the meditation practices derive from the Buddhist tradition, they are universal in orientation and address spiritual themes of concern to all contemplative traditions.

A workshop is not primarily silent (talking may be allowed during breaks and lunch) and may be focused on a special topic, such as applying meditation to relationships, emotional healing or physical well-being. Workshops may include a variety of formats, including different reflections and exercises and the sharing of experiences.
