This special introductory class is being offered for anyone interested in learning more about the upcoming 8-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction workshops. Our next 8-week MBSR series begins on April 1.

In this introductory class you will learn about some of the principles of mindfulness, explore how mindfulness might assist in stress reduction, and practice both formal and informal mindfulness meditation.

IMCW's Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an eight-week program offered live on Zoom  that assists people who want to learn to use their own internal resources to respond more skillfully to stress, medical and psychological conditions, and promote healthy living.

The classes are modeled after the ones offered at the Stress Reduction Clinic developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. This 40-year-old program is highly respected in the medical community, and has been featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show, NBC’s Dateline, ABC’s Evening News, and hundreds of newspapers and magazine articles. In February 2014 it was featured on the cover of Time Magazine.

This course is suitable for both beginning meditators (no meditation experience required) and for experienced meditators looking to deepen their practice and understanding of mindfulness.

The course schedule consists of eight weekly classes and one day-long workshop. This highly participatory, practical course includes:

  • Guided instruction in mindfulness meditation practices
  • Gentle stretching and mindful yoga
  • Group dialogue and discussions aimed at enhancing awareness in everyday life
  • Daily home practice, including guided meditations

Note: Because this is an online retreat, participants are encouraged to find space of relative quiet, limiting the amount of interaction with others in the environment as much as possible. Participants may join by internet or via phone.

Participants will be given the Zoom link in the registration confirmation email and again via email the week before the course begins.

How do I get on a Zoom class?

Mindfulness Online: What it is Like to Participate in Retreats, Workshops, Courses and Classes via Video Conference, by Stan Eisenstein

Bill, I took away from this MBSR course something especially powerful for me. Your explanation of True Self, not being identified with all the rules, activities,  accomplishments, mistakes – owning it, responsible yes; but knowing that’s not who I really am. This helped me gain a greater access to that deep soul within me. Also, I enjoyed the opportunity to learn more deeply how mindfulness can help me address stress and anxiety.

I spend a lot of time, more than I realized, multi-tasking and/or not being fully present. Due to this course, I feel more connected to myself, others and the environment when I am attentive to the present moment.  I have known many great teachers and you, Bill, are among them.

IMCW aspires to create a safe, supportive community. We welcome everyone with an interest in meditation, regardless of identity, orientation or background.
