Catherine Brousseau began mindfulness and vipassana meditation in 1998. She has done meditation retreats throughout her life, first as a Catholic and now as a Buddhist. Her teachers include Luisa Montero-Diaz, Deb Ratner, and Lynn Kelly (now in Australia) at IMCW, Bhante Gunaratana and Bhante Rahula (now in MD) at the Bhavana Society, WV. She took Bhavana Society Teacher Training courses and completed the Advanced Study & Practice Program at the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies, Massachusetts.
Sutta study has been a major focus of Catherine’s practice. Since 2002, Catherine has been active in IMCW's Sutta Study group, exploring the teachings of the Buddha directly from the scriptures. She still facilitates this dedicated monthly gathering. Catherine taught Buddhadharma at Willow Street Yoga Center in Takoma Park, MD over the years 2006-2020. Her training as a life coach informs her meditation practice and service to other yogis.
In 2009 Catherine retired from formal employment and in 2020 she moved to a retirement community in Silver Spring MD. From the onset of the Covid pandemic, three times weekly she leads a small group of older people learning meditation for the first time in their lives.
