Luana has been a practitioner of mindfulness and insight meditation since 2008. She loves the Buddha dharma, values the practice of noble silence, and appreciates learning from many Eastern and Western teachers, friends, animals, and trees. She has recently discovered the practice and community of Insight Dialogue, and delights in the joy of awakening together.
Luana was born in China and raised by her father and extended family there. She immigrated to the U.S. when she was 9 years old to live with her mom and step-dad in a multiracial family. She grew up in Iowa, graduated with a degree in chemical engineering, and worked as a patent examiner for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office before leaving her career to explore a more sensitive and embodied way of living. Luana considers herself a 1.5 generation immigrant, relates to being more of a small-town Asian American, and recognizes this planet Earth as home to all beings seen and unseen.
She enjoys accessing and expressing the dharma through movement, dance, rhythm, chanting and play. Luana is a certified Shake Your Soul®: the Yoga of Dance instructor, and a 2019 graduate of the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program guided by Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield. She is the co-founder of IMCW Asian Sangha and co-facilitates IMCW Young Adult Sangha. She resides in Northern Virginia with her husband and two dachshunds.
