Ali has been studying and practicing Buddhism, meditation, and yoga since 1999.
She is a licensed clinical social worker, certified yoga therapist, nationally certified health and wellness coach, certified mindfulness meditation teacher, and certified iRest yoga nidra meditation teacher.
Since 2010, she has worked full time at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center as a wellness coordinator and mind-body therapist teaching skills to veterans healing from the wounds of war. She also has a private practice offering holistic psychotherapy and coaching.
Ali is committed to living a path of “engaged dharma” that aims to reduce suffering and extend compassion to all sentient beings. To this end, she founded the IMCW Vegan Sangha in 2019, which provides community and support for vegans and aspiring vegans who feel that the practice of mindfulness and compassion for all beings as expressed through a vegan lifestyle is integral to their dharma and spiritual path.
Ali is also the DC-Area chapter leader for the international organization Dharma Voices for Animals.
