Ali has been studying and practicing Buddhism, meditation, and yoga for over 20 years. She has been blessed with many great teachers from various traditions (including but not limited to) Theravada, Mahayana, Vajrayana, and Advaita Vedanta.
She is a licensed integrative, mindfulness-based psychotherapist, certified yoga therapist, and certified iRest meditation teacher. Since 2010, she has worked full time to provide mind-body therapy and skills to veterans healing from the wounds of war. She will complete the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification with Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield in May 2019.
As an aspiring Bodhisattva, Ali is committed to living a path of “engaged dharma” that aims to reduce suffering and extend compassion to ALL sentient beings including human and non-human animals alike. Ali is particularly focused on raising awareness and advocating compassion for non-human animals, and particularly for the billions of feeling, intelligent beings who are raised and killed for food.
Ali is the DC-Area Chapter Leader for the international organization Dharma Voices for Animals.
She is founder and facilitator of the IMCW Vegan Sangha, which provides community support for vegans and aspiring vegans who feel that the practice of mindfulness and compassion for all beings as expressed through a vegan lifestyle is integral to their dharma and spiritual path.
