Ric Chollar is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), who has recently retired after fifteen years as director of George Mason University’s (GMU) Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Questioning (LGBTQ) Resources Office.
Ric has worked in higher education since 1987, as an adjunct faculty with George Mason. Since then, he has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in Mason’s Psychology, Social Work, Health, and Women & Gender Studies Departments.
In addition, for the past thirty years Ric has served in volunteer and professional positions in the areas of diversity & inclusion, interpersonal violence, addiction, HIV/AIDS, loss & recovery, and LGBTQ concerns in the Washington, DC metro area; as mental health therapist, support group leader, prevention specialist, program supervisor, teacher and trainer.
For over 14 years through the present, Ric has considered IMCW’s LGBTQIA+ affinity sangha to be his “home sangha.” For the past 5 years or so, Ric has occasionally filled in for La Sarmiento’s leadership, facilitating the 2-½ hour session.
Ric has been active in IMCW’s range of diversity efforts for the past decade.
Ric was an active member of IMCW’s Visioning Project; including helping with focus groups, surveys, and Diversity-Equity-Inclusion research and recommendations.
