Awakening the Earth Holder: An EcoDharma Retreat

Sponsored by the BESS Family Foundation

with teachers TBD

Dates TBD at the Seven Oaks Retreat Center

Grounded in the understanding that the Earth is our mother and all beings are our relatives, this retreat invites you to explore mindfulness and meditation practices to help embody the call to hold, protect and preserve the Earth. This is the same aspiration shared thousands of years ago by the Earth Holder Bodhisattva, Dharanimdhara, from the Lotus Sutra.

Through the lens of both ancient Buddhist sutras and indigenous traditions, Larry and Joe will guide you in deepening your connection to the Earth and embracing the call to protect and preserve our shared home.

Acceptance to the retreat is on an application basis through One Earth Sangha. There is no fee for this retreat. Participants’ room and board are paid for through the generosity of the BESS Family Foundation.

Click here to apply for the retreat (link TBD). Once you are accepted, you will receive an e-mail with a link to register for a room. We will ask for a $100 refundable deposit to hold your space.

What is “EcoDharma”?
The fusion of traditional Buddhist principles with contemporary ecological awareness, offering guidance and practices for navigating the complex challenges of the 21st-century socio-ecological crisis. Like many indigenous traditions around the world, Zen Buddhism celebrates the fundamental inter-connectedness and Interbeing of all phenomena. The ‘Eco’ paradigm can help us make the shift from ways of living based on hierarchy, control and oppression to those based on co-intelligence, co-operation, mutuality and partnership. Thus, “Ecodharma” encompasses revitalized teachings, insights, frameworks and  practices of contemplative traditions, especially Buddhism, through which we can act in these times of polycrisis, a large part of which is ecological-climate crisis.
